What is the IPPT Score?

Your IPPT score is the combined total from three fitness stations — push-ups (max 25 pts), sit-ups (max 25 pts), and a 2.4km run (max 50 pts). The score determines your award level and cash incentive, with thresholds adjusted across 14 age groups for fairness.

Quick Answer

Your IPPT score is out of 100 points — push-ups (25), sit-ups (25) and the 2.4km run (50). For NSmen: Gold 85+ ($500), Silver 75–84 ($300), Pass with Incentive 61–74 ($200), Pass 51–60 ($0). Below 51 is a fail requiring 20 RT sessions.

Quick Reference

  • • Maximum score: 100 points (Push-ups 25 + Sit-ups 25 + 2.4km Run 50)
  • • Gold: 85-100 pts ($500) | Silver: 75-84 pts ($300) | Pass with Incentive: 61-74 pts ($200)
  • • Pass: 51-60 pts (no incentive) | Fail: below 51 pts (20 RT sessions required)
  • • Max reps for full points: 60 push-ups and 60 sit-ups in 1 minute each
  • • Max run points: 2.4km in 8 minutes 30 seconds or faster

IPPT Score Breakdown

The IPPT score is the sum of points from all three stations. The 2.4km run is worth double the points of push-ups or sit-ups (50 vs 25), making it the most impactful station to train for.

For maximum points: aim for 60 push-ups, 60 sit-ups, and a run time of 8 minutes 30 seconds or faster.

Remember: you must score at least 1 point in each station. Even a total of 85 points won't count as Gold if you scored 0 in any single station.

NSFs (Full-Time NSmen)

Doing IPPT as part of full-time NS. Failure triggers Remedial Training (RT).

  • Pass requirement: Must pass within NS term
  • Pass reward: Gold: 4 off-in-lieu days, Silver: 3, Pass w/Incentive: 2
  • Cash award: No cash award for NSFs

NSmen (Reservists)

Annual IPPT obligation for ORD NSmen until MR (Military Readiness) age.

  • Cash incentive: Gold $500, Silver $300, Pass w/Incentive $200
  • Fail: Triggers 20 RT sessions
  • IPPT window: Typically April–March

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the IPPT score calculated?expand_more

Your IPPT score is the sum of points from three stations: push-ups (max 25), sit-ups (max 25), and 2.4km run (max 50). Scoring tables are adjusted by age group — there are 14 age brackets from under 22 to 58-60.

What are the IPPT award levels and incentives?expand_more

Gold (85-100 points; 90+ for Commandos/Divers/Guards): $500 incentive. Silver (75-84): $300. Pass with Incentive (61-74): $200. Pass (51-60 for NSmen; 61+ for NSFs/Regulars): no incentive. Below 51 (NSmen) or 61 (NSFs/Regulars) triggers the 10-session NS FIT programme (which replaced RT in 2021). Note: there is NO "Gold+" or "Gold with Distinction" tier — Commandos/Divers/Guards needing 90 for Gold is still just "Gold" at $500.

How many push-ups do I need for maximum points?expand_more

60 push-ups in 1 minute gives the maximum 25 points across all age groups. The number of reps needed for passing grades varies by age — older age groups need fewer reps for the same number of points.

What is a good 2.4km run time for IPPT?expand_more

Running 2.4km in 8:30 or faster earns the maximum 50 points across all age groups. For younger NSmen (under 22), a 12:30 run earns about 30 points. Older age groups can achieve higher points with slower times.

Can I retake the IPPT if I fail?expand_more

Yes, you can take the IPPT multiple times within your IPPT window. If you ultimately fail (score below 51 for NSmen or 61 for NSFs/Regulars), you must complete the 10-session NS FIT programme (which replaced the older 20-session RT in 2021). NS FIT sessions are conducted at FCCs, FIT@Park, SAFRA/ActiveSG gyms, HPB Quick HIIT, or FIT@Home. One of the 10 sessions must be an IPPT attempt; you can clear NS FIT by either passing IPPT mid-programme ("score-out") or completing all 10 sessions ("attendance-out").

What is a good IPPT score?expand_more

A good IPPT score is 75 points and above, which earns Silver ($300) or Gold ($500) for NSmen. A score of 61–74 earns Pass with Incentive ($200), and 51–60 is a plain Pass with no cash award. Anything below 51 is a fail. For most NSmen, aiming for Silver (75 points) is a realistic target that still earns a cash incentive.

How many points do I need for IPPT Gold?expand_more

You need 85 points or more out of 100 to achieve IPPT Gold (or 90+ if you are a Commando, Naval Diver, or Guardsman), and you must score at least 1 point in every station. Gold earns a $500 incentive — the same amount applies to NSmen, NSFs and Regulars (NSmen are credited to bank/PayNow at least 14 days after the test; NSFs/Regulars receive it with their monthly salary). Because the 2.4km run is worth 50 of the 100 points, a fast run time (8:30 or faster for maximum points) is usually the most efficient route to Gold.

Do NSFs get cash for passing IPPT?expand_more

Yes — the same dollar amounts apply to NSmen, NSFs and Regulars (Gold $500 / Silver $300 / Pass with Incentive $200), per MINDEF's 2014 announcement that set the current scheme effective 1 Sep 2014 for NSmen and 1 Apr 2015 for Regulars. The only differences for NSFs/Regulars are: (a) they pass at 61 points rather than 51, and (b) the payout is credited via their monthly salary, not bank/PayNow. Some units also award off-in-lieu days for higher awards as a unit-level recognition practice, but the cash incentive is universal.

Until what age do NSmen need to take IPPT?expand_more

NSmen are required to take IPPT annually until their statutory MR (Military Readiness) age, which is generally the end of their NS obligation — age 40 for most servicemen and age 50 for officers. After reaching MR age, IPPT is no longer compulsory. Those who are exempt or on medical status follow alternative requirements set by their unit.

How accurate is this IPPT score calculator?expand_more

This calculator applies the official IPPT scoring tables published by MINDEF and the NS Portal, covering all 14 age groups and station-by-station points. It gives an accurate estimate of your award level. Your official result is recorded on the day of your actual IPPT at an FCC or your unit, which remains the authoritative score.
