IPPT Awards: NSmen vs NSFs
The reward structure differs by NS status. Operationally Ready servicemen (NSmen) receive cash incentives. Full-time national servicemen (NSFs) receive off-in-lieu days instead.

How IPPT Scoring Works
The IPPT tests three components of physical fitness. You have one minute each for push-ups and sit-ups, followed by a timed 2.4km run. The 2.4km run carries the highest weight at 50 points — making it the most impactful station to improve.
Scoring is age-adjusted across 14 age groups (below 22 to 58-60). Older NSmen receive more lenient thresholds — for example, a 50-year-old needs fewer reps for the same points as a 22-year-old.
You must score at least 1 point in every station to pass. Even with a high total, scoring 0 in any station means an automatic fail. Maintaining a healthy weight can help your performance — check where you stand with our BMI Calculator. For a detailed station-by-station breakdown, try the IPPT Score Calculator.
Push-Ups
1 minute · 60 reps = max points
Sit-Ups
1 minute · 60 reps = max points

Female IPPT Standards (SAF Regulars)
Female SAF regulars are tested on the same three stations with adjusted thresholds. These are indicative standards — verify with MINDEF for the latest tables.
| Age Group | Gold (85 pts) — Push-ups | Gold — Sit-ups | Gold — 2.4km Run |
|---|---|---|---|
| Below 25 | 30 reps | 38 reps | 13:30 |
| 25–29 | 28 reps | 36 reps | 13:45 |
| 30–34 | 26 reps | 34 reps | 14:00 |
| 35–39 | 24 reps | 32 reps | 14:30 |

| 45+ | 18 reps | 26 reps | 16:00 |

IPPT vs Remedial Training (RT): What to Expect
If you fail IPPT (score below 51 points), you must complete Remedial Training. Here is what each pathway involves.
| Aspect | IPPT (Pass) | RT (If You Fail) |
|---|---|---|
| Duration | One session (~45–60 min) | 20 sessions across the IPPT window |
| Location | IPPT fitness centre or SAF camp | Fitness Conditioning Centre (FCC) |
| Cash outcome | Up to $500 (NSmen) or off-in-lieu (NSFs) | No cash — obligation to complete all 20 sessions |
| Completion requirement | Pass = obligation fulfilled | All 20 sessions must be completed within window |
| Retake opportunity | Multiple attempts per IPPT window allowed | Can still attempt IPPT during RT period to exit early |
NSmen who complete all 20 RT sessions fulfil their annual IPPT obligation even without passing. Verify current RT procedures with your unit or MINDEF.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the IPPT?expand_more
The Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) is a fitness test for Singapore Armed Forces servicemen. It consists of three stations — push-ups, sit-ups (each 1 minute), and a 2.4km run — with a maximum total score of 100 points.
What score do I need to pass IPPT?expand_more
You need at least 51 points to pass, with a minimum of 1 point in each station. Scoring 61+ earns a cash incentive of $200, 75+ earns Silver ($300), and 85+ earns Gold ($500).
How much is the IPPT incentive payout?expand_more
For NSmen: Gold (85-100 points) = $500, Silver (75-84) = $300, Pass with Incentive (61-74) = $200, Pass (51-60) = $0. NSFs do not receive cash — they get off-in-lieu instead (Gold = 4 days off, Silver = 3 days, Pass with Incentive = 2 days, Pass = 1 day).
What happens if I fail IPPT?expand_more
If you score below 51 points, you must complete 20 Remedial Training (RT) sessions within the IPPT window. Each RT session typically involves supervised physical training at a Fitness Conditioning Centre (FCC).
How are IPPT scores adjusted for age?expand_more
IPPT uses 14 age groups from under 22 to 58-60. Older age groups have more lenient scoring thresholds — for example, fewer push-ups or a slower run time earns the same number of points.
Do women take the IPPT?expand_more
Female SAF regulars and certain uniformed personnel take a female-standard IPPT. The three stations are the same (push-ups, sit-ups, 2.4km run) but with different scoring thresholds. For example, female Gold standard (age below 25) requires approximately 30 push-ups, 38 sit-ups, and a 2.4km run under 13:30. Verify exact standards with MINDEF as they are updated periodically.
How do I improve my IPPT score quickly?expand_more
The 2.4km run is worth 50 points — double either of the other stations. The fastest way to improve your total score is to focus on run time. A 1-minute improvement in your 2.4km time can add 4–6 points depending on your age group. For push-ups and sit-ups, consistent daily practice of 3 sets to near-failure is effective.
