How NS Pay Works
NSF monthly allowances are determined by two components: base pay by rank and vocation allowance. Base pay ranges from $715 for a Recruit (REC) up to $1,455 for a Lieutenant (LTA), increasing with each promotion during your two-year service.
Vocation allowances provide additional compensation based on the nature of your role. Combat vocations such as Infantry, Armour, and Guards receive the highest allowances ($175 to $500), while service and administrative vocations receive lower or no additional vocation pay.
For NSmen (reservists), compensation during In-Camp Training is calculated differently — MINDEF provides make-up pay based on your civilian income, ensuring you are not financially disadvantaged during your reservist obligations.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the NS pay range for NSFs?expand_more
NSF monthly allowances range from $715 for a Recruit (REC) to $1,455 for a Lieutenant (LTA). The exact amount depends on your rank and any additional vocation allowances you receive.
How does rank affect NS pay?expand_more
Higher ranks receive higher base allowances. For example, a Private (PTE) receives $780, a Corporal (CPL) receives $870, a Sergeant (SGT) receives $1,020, and an Officer Cadet (OCT) receives $1,125. Promotions during NS lead to pay increases.
What are vocation allowances?expand_more
Vocation allowances are additional monthly payments on top of your base rank allowance. Combat vocations (e.g., Infantry, Armour, Guards) receive $175 to $500 extra, while service and admin vocations may receive lower or no vocation allowance.
Is NSman reservist pay different from NSF pay?expand_more
Yes. NSmen (reservists) receive make-up pay from MINDEF during In-Camp Training (ICT) or mobilisation. This is calculated based on your civilian income, subject to a cap, and is separate from the NSF allowance structure.
