Frequently Asked Questions
What is a SIP?expand_more
A Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) is investing a fixed amount on a regular schedule — usually monthly — into a fund or portfolio, regardless of price. It enforces discipline and averages your entry price over time (dollar-cost averaging). In Singapore, regular-shares-savings plans from banks and brokers, and recurring robo-advisor deposits, are common ways to run a SIP.
What is a step-up SIP?expand_more
A step-up (or top-up) SIP increases your monthly contribution by a set percentage each year — for example, raising it 10% annually as your salary grows. Because the extra contributions also compound, even a modest step-up can grow your final corpus significantly compared with a flat SIP. Set the step-up to 0% for a constant monthly amount.
How is the SIP future value calculated?expand_more
Each month's contribution is compounded monthly at your expected annual return until the end of the horizon. With a step-up, the monthly amount rises once per completed year. The calculator shows the projected value, the total you actually invested, and the wealth gained (the difference).
Is the return guaranteed?expand_more
No. Market returns vary year to year and can be negative; the figure you enter is an assumption, not a promise. Use a realistic, conservative rate, and remember a SIP smooths but does not eliminate risk. For capital-guaranteed Singapore options, compare CPF, Singapore Savings Bonds, and T-bills.
