  • • Minimum for Diploma: 24 points, with conditions on individual grades
  • • TOK/EE bonus: 0-3 points based on combined grade matrix (A-E each)
  • • IB 44-45 roughly equates to 90 A-Level rank points for Singapore university admission
  • • Singapore IB schools include ACS(I), SJI, SOTA, and various international schools

How It Works

The IB Diploma Programme requires students to take 6 subjects: 3 at Higher Level (HL) and 3 at Standard Level (SL). Each subject is graded from 1 (lowest) to 7 (highest), giving a maximum of 42 subject points.

In addition, students complete Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and an Extended Essay (EE), each graded from A to E. The combination of TOK and EE grades determines bonus points (0-3), bringing the total possible score to 45.

A minimum of 24 points is needed for the Diploma, with additional conditions on individual subject grades and HL/SL point minimums. An E in either TOK or EE can result in Diploma failure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum IB score?expand_more

The maximum IB Diploma score is 45 points. This consists of a maximum of 42 points from 6 subjects (each graded 1-7, so 6 x 7 = 42) plus up to 3 bonus points from the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and Extended Essay (EE) matrix.

What score do I need to pass the IB Diploma?expand_more

To be awarded the IB Diploma, you need a minimum of 24 points overall. How does the TOK/EE bonus matrix work?expand_more

The TOK and EE are each graded A to E. Your combination of grades determines your bonus points (0 to 3). If you receive an E in either TOK or EE, you may fail the Diploma regardless of your other scores.
