NTU GPA Calculator (5.0 Scale)
Calculate your NTU cumulative GPA with credit-weighted grades.
What is the NTU GPA?
The NTU Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is a credit-weighted measure on a 5.0 scale used by Nanyang Technological University. It is calculated by weighting each module's grade point by its Academic Units (AUs), with A+/A at 5.0 and grades decreasing in 0.5 increments.

Quick Reference
- • NTU uses a 5.0 GPA scale — A+/A = 5.0, A- = 4.5, B+ = 4.0, down to F = 0.0
- • Honours (Highest Distinction): CGPA 4.50+ | Distinction: 4.00-4.49 | Merit: 3.50-3.99
- • Most modules carry 3 Academic Units (AUs)
- • Dean's List typically requires a semester GPA of 4.50 and above
How It Works
NTU uses a 5.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) scale. Your GPA is calculated by multiplying each module's grade point by its Academic Units (AUs), summing all the products, then dividing by the total number of AUs attempted.
Like NUS, both A+ and A award 5.0 grade points at NTU. The scale decreases in 0.5 increments: A- (4.5), B+ (4.0), B (3.5), and so on down to F (0.0). Most modules carry 3 AUs.
Modules taken on a Pass/Fail basis or transferred from exchange programmes are typically excluded from the CGPA computation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What grading system does NTU use?expand_more
NTU uses a 5.0 GPA scale similar to NUS. A+ and A both award 5.0 grade points, A- gives 4.5, B+ gives 4.0, B gives 3.5, B- gives 3.0, C+ gives 2.5, C gives 2.0, D+ gives 1.5, D gives 1.0, and F gives 0.0.
What GPA do I need for honours at NTU?expand_more
NTU honours classification typically follows: Honours (Highest Distinction) for CGPA 4.50 and above, Honours (Distinction) for CGPA 4.00-4.49, Honours (Merit) for CGPA 3.50-3.99, and Honours for CGPA 3.00-3.49. Some programmes may have different cutoffs.
How many Academic Units (AUs) does each module carry at NTU?expand_more
Most NTU modules carry 3 Academic Units (AUs), though some lab-intensive or project modules may carry 4 or more AUs. Your CGPA is weighted by the AUs of each module.
Can I exclude modules from my GPA at NTU?expand_more
Yes, NTU allows students to declare Pass/Fail (P/F) options for certain modules, especially in the first year. Modules graded as Pass are excluded from your CGPA computation while still counting toward graduation requirements.
What is the Dean's List requirement at NTU?expand_more
To be on the Dean's List at NTU, you typically need a semester GPA of 4.50 and above, with a minimum course load. The exact requirements may vary by school within NTU.
How does NTU GPA compare to NUS, SMU, and SUTD GPA?expand_more
NTU, NUS, and SUTD all use a 5.00 GPA scale where A+/A both equal 5.00 grade points. SMU is the exception, using a 4.30 scale where A+ equals 4.30 and A equals 4.00. When converting between schools, treat NTU/NUS/SUTD GPAs as interchangeable, but SMU figures need rescaling. For example, an SMU GPA of 3.60 is roughly equivalent to an NTU GPA of around 4.18. Always verify with the specific receiving institution or employer, as official conversion formulas vary.
Does NTU GPA affect job applications in Singapore?expand_more
For fresh graduates, GPA is one of the most common screening criteria used by large Singapore employers, particularly civil service (PSC, MOE, MAS), banks (DBS, OCBC, UOB), and professional services firms (Big 4 audit, MBB consulting). Many graduate programmes require a minimum of Honours (Distinction) or roughly NTU GPA 4.00 and above. After 3 to 5 years of work experience, GPA becomes less important as employers focus on track record, but it can still matter for postgraduate study and certain regulated professions such as law.
