FAQ

How much does MOE put into my child’s Edusave account each year?add
For Singapore Citizen students, MOE contributes $230 a year while in primary school and $290 a year while in secondary school. In MOE-funded schools the contributions run from the start of Primary 1 until the end of secondary school; for SCs not in MOE-funded schools they run from age 7 to 16. JC and Millennia Institute students do not receive further annual contributions but can still use the remaining balance.
What can Edusave be used for?add
Edusave funds pay for enrichment programmes and school activities approved by the school, and for second-tier subsidies on selected programmes. Schools draw on the account for things like learning journeys, CCA-related costs and enrichment. Any unused balance keeps accumulating while the student is eligible, and remaining funds are transferred to the Post-Secondary Education Account (PSEA) at the end of the schooling period.
Does the Edusave account earn interest?add
Yes — Edusave balances earn interest set by the Government (broadly in line with prevailing rates). This calculator projects the contributions only and does not add interest, so the actual balance will be a little higher than the figure shown.
What are the Edusave awards and how much are they?add
Beyond the annual account contribution, MOE gives merit-based Edusave awards: the Edusave Merit Bursary (EMB, for good performers from lower- and middle-income families), the Edusave Award for Achievement, Good Leadership and Service (EAGLES), the Good Progress Award (GPA), and Edusave scholarships for top students. MOE does not publish a single fixed table of these amounts — the indicative figures below are typical recent values, but you should confirm the exact quantum and criteria with your child’s school.
Who is eligible for Edusave contributions and awards?add
The annual account contribution is for Singapore Citizen students. The awards are also for Singapore Citizens in Government, Government-aided, independent and specialised schools, with criteria based on academic results, improvement, leadership/service, and (for the Merit Bursary) household income. Permanent residents and foreigners are generally not eligible for Edusave.
