What is the CGPA Calculator?

This general-purpose CGPA calculator computes your cumulative grade point average from each course's grade points and credits, on either a 5.0 or 4.0 scale. For institution-specific grade tables, see our NUS, NTU, and polytechnic GPA calculators.

CGPA is the credit-weighted average of your grade points: Σ(grade × credits) ÷ Σ(credits). Heavier-credit modules pull your average more. Check your institution's exact grade table for the points that map to each letter grade.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CGPA?expand_more

CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is the credit-weighted average of your grade points across every course or semester. It is calculated as the sum of (grade point × credits) divided by the total credits. Because it is credit-weighted, a high grade in a 4-credit module moves your CGPA more than the same grade in a 1-credit module.

How is CGPA different from GPA?expand_more

GPA usually refers to a single semester or term, while CGPA is cumulative across your whole programme. You compute each from the same formula; CGPA simply includes all courses to date. Some institutions also recompute CGPA each semester as more modules are added.

What grade scale should I use?expand_more

Use your institution's scale. NUS and NTU use a 5.0 scale; many other programmes and overseas universities use 4.0. Toggle the scale at the top, then enter the grade point each letter grade maps to from your transcript or grading policy. For institution-specific tables, see our NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, and polytechnic GPA calculators.

Do credits or module units matter?expand_more

Yes — they are the weights. Enter each course's credit value (also called modular credits, academic units, or credit hours). Courses with more credits count proportionally more towards your CGPA, which is why a heavy core module can shift your average noticeably.
