Road Tax Calculator (2026)
Calculate your annual road tax based on engine capacity or electric vehicle status.
What is a Road Tax Calculator?
A road tax calculator estimates your annual road tax payable to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) based on your vehicle's engine capacity (cc). Singapore uses a progressive tiered system where larger engines pay significantly more. Electric vehicles use a power rating (kW) conversion instead.

How Road Tax is Calculated in Singapore
Road tax in Singapore is calculated based on your vehicle's engine capacity (cc) using a progressive tiered system managed by the Land Transport Authority (LTA). Larger engines pay significantly more — the rate per cc increases at each tier boundary.
There are 5 tiers for petrol and diesel cars: up to 600cc, 601-1000cc, 1001-1600cc, 1601-3000cc, and above 3000cc. For electric vehicles, the power rating (kW) is converted to an equivalent engine capacity using an LTA-prescribed formula.
Road tax can be paid every 6 months or 12 months through LTA's OneMotoring portal. It must be kept current — driving without valid road tax is an offence that can result in fines and vehicle impoundment.
Worked example: A 1,598cc petrol car falls in the 1,001–1,600cc band. 6-month road tax = $300 + $0.75 × (1598 − 1000) = $300 + $448.50 = $748.50 (≈$749). Annual = $1,498. A 1,600cc car at the top of the band is $300 + $0.75 × 600 = $750 six-monthly, $1,500/year. Payable every 12 months (or 6 months at a 10% surcharge). Green vehicle rebates (EEAI/VES) apply separately.
Electric vehicles are taxed differently — based on maximum motor power output in kW rather than engine capacity. An EV with 150kW motor output pays approximately $2,280/year before rebates. However, EVs currently qualify for a road tax rebate under the EV Early Adoption Incentive (EEAI), which significantly reduces this amount. Road tax must be renewed before the expiry date; driving with expired road tax is an offence under the Road Traffic Act.

Mid-Size Cars (1,601 - 3,000cc)
$1.50 per cc above 1,600cc tier
Typically $1,100 - $5,300 per year
Electric Vehicles

Frequently Asked Questions
How is road tax calculated in Singapore?expand_more
Road tax in Singapore is calculated based on your vehicle's engine capacity (cc) using a tiered system set by the Land Transport Authority (LTA). The base rate starts at $200/6 months for cars up to 600cc, with progressively higher rates for larger engines. For each additional cc above 600, you pay an increasing rate per cc that gets steeper at each tier boundary.
What are the road tax tiers in Singapore?expand_more
LTA road tax tiers for petrol/diesel cars are: up to 600cc (base $200/6 months), 601-1000cc ($0.25 per cc above 600), 1001-1600cc ($0.75 per cc above 1000), 1601-3000cc ($1.50 per cc above 1600), and above 3000cc ($2.00 per cc above 3000). These rates are for 6-month road tax; annual road tax is double these amounts.
What is the road tax for electric vehicles in Singapore?expand_more
Electric vehicles (EVs) in Singapore are subject to a special road tax calculation based on their power rating (kW) instead of engine capacity. The power rating is converted to an equivalent engine capacity using a formula set by LTA. As of 2026, the government provides a road tax rebate for qualifying EVs to encourage adoption of cleaner vehicles.
When do I need to pay road tax in Singapore?expand_more
Road tax in Singapore can be paid every 6 months or 12 months. It must be renewed before it expires — driving without valid road tax is an offence. You can pay road tax online through the LTA OneMotoring portal or at AXS stations. Most car owners choose the 6-monthly option for better cash flow management.
How much is road tax for motorcycles in Singapore?expand_more
Motorcycle road tax in Singapore is significantly cheaper than for cars. The base rate for motorcycles up to 200cc is $33/6 months. For 201-600cc, it's an additional $0.92 per cc above 200. For engines above 600cc, it's an additional $1.75 per cc above 600. Most motorcycles in Singapore pay between $66 and $400 per year in road tax.
How is road tax calculated for electric vehicles in Singapore?expand_more
Electric vehicles are taxed based on maximum motor power output in kilowatts (kW), not engine capacity. LTA uses a tiered formula: for the first 7.5kW, the rate is $200; the next 22.5kW at $4.50/kW; and higher bands at progressively higher rates. The EV Early Adoption Incentive (EEAI) provides a rebate of up to 45% on road tax for EVs first registered between January 2021 and December 2025, making the effective road tax comparable to or lower than equivalent petrol vehicles.
Can I pay road tax in 6-monthly instalments?expand_more
Yes. Road tax can be renewed for 6 months instead of 12 months, but a 10% surcharge applies to the 6-monthly amount. For example, if annual road tax is $1,500 (a 1,600cc car), the 6-monthly amount would be ($1,500/2) × 1.10 = $825 (slightly more expensive than paying annually). You can renew road tax via OneMotoring, AXS machines, or SingPost. Renewal reminder letters are sent approximately 8 weeks before expiry.
