What is the IPPT?
The Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) is a mandatory fitness assessment for all Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) servicemen. It consists of three stations — push-ups, sit-ups, and a 2.4km run — scored out of a maximum of 100 points across 14 age groups.

IPPT Awards: NSmen vs NSFs
The same cash incentive amounts ($500/$300/$200) apply to NSmen, NSFs and Regulars. The differences are pass mark (51 for NSmen vs 61 for NSFs/Regulars) and payment channel (bank/PayNow for NSmen vs monthly salary for NSFs/Regulars).

How IPPT Scoring Works
The IPPT tests three components of physical fitness. You have one minute each for push-ups and sit-ups, followed by a timed 2.4km run. The 2.4km run carries the highest weight at 50 points — making it the most impactful station to improve.
Scoring is age-adjusted across 14 age groups (below 22 to 58-60). Older NSmen receive more lenient thresholds — for example, a 50-year-old needs fewer reps for the same points as a 22-year-old.
You must score at least 1 point in every station to pass. Even with a high total, scoring 0 in any station means an automatic fail. Maintaining a healthy weight can help your performance — check where you stand with our BMI Calculator. For a detailed station-by-station breakdown, try the IPPT Score Calculator.

Female IPPT Standards (SAF Regulars)
Female SAF regulars are tested on the same three stations with adjusted thresholds. These are indicative standards — verify with MINDEF for the latest tables.

IPPT vs NS FIT: What to Expect
Since 1 April 2021, NS FIT replaced the older Remedial Training (RT) regime. If you fail IPPT, don't attempt it, or don't complete 10 NS FIT sessions in your current window, your next window becomes a Mandatory NS FIT window. Here is what each pathway looks like in 2026.
| Aspect | IPPT (Pass) | NS FIT (If You Fail or Don't Attempt) |
|---|---|---|
| Duration | One test session (~45–60 min) | 10 sessions (typically 9 training + 1 IPPT attempt), 60–75 min each |
| Location | FCC (Bedok, Khatib, Kranji or CMPB at Hillview Link) or SAFRA EnergyOne gym | Same FCCs and designated SAFRA EnergyOne gyms |
| Cash outcome | Up to $500 (same for NSmen, NSFs and Regulars) | No cash — passing the IPPT attempt within NS FIT also fulfils the IPPT obligation |
| Completion requirement | Pass (≥ 51 pts + ≥ 1 per station) = obligation fulfilled | Complete all 10 NS FIT sessions in the window — failure to do so makes you a defaulter under the NS Act |
| Retake opportunity | Multiple attempts allowed in your IPPT window | The IPPT attempt within the 10-session NS FIT block counts; passing it ends the obligation early |
The older 20-RT-session language used in pre-2021 guides is no longer current. NS Portal: Bedok, Khatib, Kranji and CMPB (Hillview Link) FCCs from 14 Oct 2025 — Maju FCC is no longer used for NSmen IPPT / NS FIT. Verify with the OneNS app before booking.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the IPPT?expand_more
The Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) is a fitness test for Singapore Armed Forces servicemen. It consists of three stations — push-ups, sit-ups (each 1 minute), and a 2.4km run — with a maximum total score of 100 points.
What score do I need to pass IPPT?expand_more
You need at least 51 points to pass, with a minimum of 1 point in each station. Scoring 61+ earns a cash incentive of $200, 75+ earns Silver ($300), and 85+ earns Gold ($500).
How much is the IPPT incentive payout?expand_more
The same dollar amounts apply to NSmen, NSFs and Regulars (per MINDEF's 2014 scheme effective 1 Sep 2014 for NSmen, 1 Apr 2015 for Regulars): Gold (85-100 points; 90+ for Commandos/Divers/Guards) = $500, Silver (75-84) = $300, Pass with Incentive (61-74) = $200, Pass = $0. Differences: NSmen pass at 51, NSFs/Regulars at 61; NSmen are credited to bank/PayNow at least 14 days after the test, while NSFs/Regulars receive it with monthly salary. There is NO "Gold+" tier — the 90+ standard for elite vocations is still simply "Gold".
What happens if I fail IPPT?expand_more
Since 1 April 2021, the older 20-session Remedial Training (RT) regime has been replaced by NS FIT. If you fail IPPT (or do not attempt it) and do not complete 10 NS FIT sessions in your current window, your next window becomes a Mandatory NS FIT window — you must complete 10 sessions (typically 9 training + 1 IPPT attempt) at a Fitness Conditioning Centre (Bedok, Khatib, Kranji or CMPB at Hillview Link) or designated SAFRA EnergyOne gym. Failing to complete mandatory NS FIT makes you a defaulter under the NS Act.
How are IPPT scores adjusted for age?expand_more
IPPT uses 14 age groups from under 22 to 58-60. Older age groups have more lenient scoring thresholds — for example, fewer push-ups or a slower run time earns the same number of points.
Do women take the IPPT?expand_more
Female SAF regulars and certain uniformed personnel take a female-standard IPPT. The three stations are the same (push-ups, sit-ups, 2.4km run) but with different scoring thresholds. For example, female Gold standard (age below 25) requires approximately 30 push-ups, 38 sit-ups, and a 2.4km run under 13:30. Verify exact standards with MINDEF as they are updated periodically.
How do I improve my IPPT score quickly?expand_more
The 2.4km run is worth 50 points — double either of the other stations. The fastest way to improve your total score is to focus on run time. A 1-minute improvement in your 2.4km time can add 4–6 points depending on your age group. For push-ups and sit-ups, consistent daily practice of 3 sets to near-failure is effective.
